Elyssa (she/her) is a Licensed Clinical Social Worker (LCSW) and an Outpatient Psychotherapist at Three Oaks Behavioral Health & Wellness. Elyssa received her Bachelor of Social Work degree from Campbell University in Buies Creek, NC and received her Master of Social Work Degree from North Carolina State University in Raleigh, NC.
Elyssa has practiced social work in a variety of settings including both inpatient and outpatient mental health settings where she facilitated group therapy sessions, conducted individual therapy sessions, and developed a support group curriculum for loved ones of those experiencing mental health/substance use disorders. She has also worked for a non-profit that served individuals experiencing crisis pregnancy where she provided counseling services and engaged in community support and outreach. Having been a scholar in the Opioid Workforce Expansion Program during her postgraduate education, Elyssa also has experience and training in working with substance use disorders.
She is trained in Eye Movement Desensitization Reprocessing Therapy (EMDR) and Cognitive Processing Therapy (CPT), both for trauma treatment. She is also trained in Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), Motivational Interviewing (MI), Dialectical Behavioral Therapy (DBT), and Mindfulness Techniques allowing her to use these evidenced-based practices to provide a holistic and person-centered approach to therapy.
In addition to her clinical background, Elyssa has experience providing biblical foundations counseling and faith-based counseling from a Christian perspective. She is passionate about helping clients incorporate their faith in Christ to help them experience healing and wholeness. She incorporates biblical principles to help clients overcome problems, process thoughts and feelings, identify unhealthy belief systems, explore questions about the christian faith, and address issues such as sin, repentance, forgiveness, and growth in spiritual maturity. The goal of biblical foundations counseling is finding healing and wholeness through a deeper understanding of biblical truth.
Elyssa is passionate about client-centered care and meeting clients where they are. She believes that it is from our experience of overcoming struggle that we are best able to help others. She utilizes a strength-based perspective to empower each client to realize and optimize their personal strengths in order to overcome challenges, move toward positive change, and live life to their fullest potential.
Her approach to therapy is to take the position of a learner in order to fully understand a client's unique needs and provide the most effective and personalized interventions. Elyssa is a firm believer that the therapeutic relationship should be a collaborative one, where she and each client work as a team in order to optimize their mental health and achieve their goals. Her warm, caring, and compassionate personality create a trusting atmosphere where clients feel accepted, comfortable, and understood.
Elyssa is passionate about working with individuals wanting to address trauma, anxiety, depression, faith-related challenges, life transitions, issues with self-esteem, relational challenges, improving communication skills, and ADHD. She is LGBTQIA+ affirming and enjoys working with clients in both one-on-one and group settings.
Elyssa is a native of Raleigh, North Carolina and after a few years living in Nashville, TN, has found her way back home. In her free time, she enjoys traveling, spending time with her dog Jasper, exercising, exploring the outdoors, spending time with family and friends, and listening to live music. As a coffee enthusiast, she can frequently be found exploring local coffee shops in the Triangle area.
