Meg Barry, MS, LCMHC
Three Oaks team member: May 2018 to September 2020
My experience working at Three Oaks was transformational for my career. Three Oaks was a soft, safe, and solid landing pad for me to harness my skills as a therapist, engage in supervision with my peers, and truly figure out my direction & calling in trauma work. The core values are truly embodied in the staff, clinicians, and leadership team at Three Oaks and I could not feel more grateful for my time of growth as a clinician while I was there!
Meg is in private practice and specializes in trauma. Her approach uses "bottom up" approaches to trauma therapy, such as Sensorimotor Psychotherapy and EMDR, to support clients in finding wellbeing and wholeness in relationships and daily life. Meg is currently working on full certification as a Sensorimotor Psychotherapist.

Chris is a Licensed Clinical Social Worker (LCSW, NC# C013216), Somatic Experiencing Practitioner® (SEP), and NARM® Master Therapist. Chris holds two master’s degrees: a Master of Social Work (MSW) from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill (UNC-CH) and a Master of Divinity (MDIV) from Duke University. He is currently working towards his Doctorate in Social Work (DSW) from the University of Pennsylvania. Chris was one of the original Three Oaks Durham psychotherapists, helping open the office on Lyckan Parkway in Durham. There, he served as Clinical Director, alongside Meg Barry, for the Durham location.
Chris specializes in Spiritual Response Therapy (SRT); Somatic Experiencing®; the Neuroaffective Relational Model (NARM®); Transforming Touch®; and Somatic & Attachment-Focused (SAFE) EMDR, which he trained in while being with Three Oaks. Those who could potentially benefit from his style of work are individuals who long to have a more affirming and validating relationship to themselves; those who desire to process trauma on a holistic level; and individuals who struggle with disconnection to themselves and others. Chris also works for the NARM Training Institute and the Somatic Experiencing International Institute as a training assistant in their professional training programs. He is also studying to become a Jungian analyst.
Chris has a private practice in Durham, North Carolina, where he primarily works with developmental, relational, and shock trauma. He is married to his husband, Eli, and lives with Kingsley, their dog, and Apollo, their cat.
Advice for new hires/employees of Three Oaks: try to really take advantage of all of the many growth opportunities--not only clinical, but being part of a team of passionate clinicians that want to live out their passions--while you are at Three Oaks; and don't forget to help those people who come after you. Pass it on!

Leslie Gunderson, LMFT
Three Oaks team member: November 2019 to October 2022
What motivated you to join the company in the first place?
I came to Three Oaks to reground myself in clinical work after working in admissions for a treatment facility. I loved the warmth and the welcoming embrace of Three Oaks, which was a gift that clinicians and clients can both feel.
How did your experience at the company contribute to your personal and/or professional growth?
Not long after I began with Three Oaks, the pandemic hit, which of course changed everything for everyone, but particularly my family. The ability to work remotely was a shift, but gave us the opportunity to relocate ourselves to Austin, TX to live near a different part of our family. My experience with Three Oaks also allowed me to invest in more training, invest in myself, and ultimately connect to my strengths.
Where are you NOW? Any future plans or goals?
I have remained remote but returned to the world of admissions with Eating Recovery Center and Pathlight Mood & Anxiety. I have been able to tap into my strengths balanced together with clinical practice, problem solving, and case management. I am now a Clinical Assessment Manager and work with a team of fantastic clinicians to help assess and get folks to the right treatment program.
Meredith Pochilly, MSW, LCSW
Three Oaks team member: April 2021 to September 2023
I began working at Three Oaks as an Outpatient Psychotherapist in the Downtown Raleigh office in June of 2022. I chose to join Three Oaks because from my first interaction with the staff I felt the warmth, support, and genuineness of all of the folks I spoke with. In my time at Three Oaks, I have been able to expand my knowledge and build my skillset working with couples/sex therapy, folks coping with infertility and/or family-building, and individuals wanting to explore relationship concerns and attachment. I will continue working with these populations and refining my skills in my own practice. My fondest memories at Three Oaks are all related to the people who I’ve worked/collaborated with. I have made colleagues and friends for a lifetime at Three Oaks. Whether I am sharing a laugh with my office mates in the break room, having coffee with someone in leadership, or consulting with one of the many talented clinicians on our staff about a case I have felt consistently seen and supported. Looking towards the future, I am opening my own private practice called Powell Psychotherapy & Wellness, PLLC. I will continue working with the populations listed above and I look forward to many more years of growth and staying connected with my network at Three Oaks!

Katie Bounds, MSW, LCSW
Three Oaks team member: August 2020 to January 2024
I joined the Three Oaks team in March 2022 working as an outpatient psychotherapist treating teens and adults coping with the challenges of life. I particularly enjoyed treating clients with OCD and anxiety, which inspired me to lead an internal Three Oaks OCD Consult Group and provide individual consultations to help educate clinicians about OCD and evidence-based treatments. Exposure and Response Prevention (ERP) and Inference-Based CBT (ICBT) are both subsets of CBT specifically used for the OCD population, and I also incorporate Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT) when it is a good fit for my clients. My passion for this work led me to my next adventure in April 2024 when I joined the team at Bull City Anxiety; OCD Treatment Center to continue my professional development as an OCD specialist.
In terms of milestones accomplished during my time here, I was honored to be recognized by the Cloister Team for living by the company’s core value of Confident Humility at the Three Oaks Annual New Year’s Party in 2024. My biggest milestone achieved while at Three Oaks is that I just mailed in my application to be a fully licensed LCSW and am thrilled for this next chapter of my career! I was drawn to Three Oaks due to their mission and the sense of community within the practice. It was evident from the beginning that they prioritize the well-being of clinicians, which enables us as therapists to do quality work with clients. Throughout my time at Three Oaks, I felt supported and had colleagues and mentors who were always happy to lend an ear if I needed to process something or consult on a case. The TO community was supportive and collaborative, which helped me grow as a clinician and contributed to decreasing that pesky imposter syndrome that all new therapists grapple with. My experience at Three Oaks has set the bar for how I deserve to be treated in the workplace. I also appreciate that I was always able to advocate for client needs and was supported in making clinical decisions that are in the best interest of my clients, and the practice supported this.
I have many fond memories like playing on the Kicks Don’t Lie team at the 2023 kickball tournament as well as ice cream and games with my crew at the Cloister/Chapel Hill office! I plan to stay connected to my Three Oaks colleagues by grabbing coffee, going on walks, consulting on cases, and connecting on LinkedIn. I will still be in the area and am always eager to nerd out about mental health and therapy with folks who share this passion!!

Ally saw Three Oaks grow from a handful of employees, and played a significant role in the practice being able to be what it is now. Prior to Three Oaks, she worked for three years in Community Mental Health which was paramount in developing crisis and assessment skills, however she credits Three Oaks with giving her the opportunity to truly learn how to work with folks in a deeper way. Over her tenure at Three Oaks, Ally contributed to the internship program, blogged for the Three Oaks newsletter, developed training, and mentored other clinicians. She received extensive training in Acceptance and Commitment Therapy and attended EMDR training with other clinicians at Three Oaks. After four years at Three Oaks, Ally opened her own private virtual practice, Crescendo Counseling, PLLC. She currently specializes in attachment trauma, anxiety and mood disorders, and traumatic bereavement. Ally is currently training to become a Licensed Clinical Mental Health Counselor Supervisor.

Three Oaks team member: March 2019 to September 2020
Working as a clinician and Site Supervisor at Three Oaks helped me build my confidence as a therapist. The peer supervision and consultation I participated in with a diverse group of clinicians was educational and inspiring. I received incredible coaching that allowed me to narrow down my practice scope and truly feel like a specialist who can serve a specific population and be successful in that work. I value the work that everyone I engaged with at Three Oaks is contributing to our community and cherish the connections I made there.
Leslie has opened her own private practice in the area, Durham Family Counseling. She specializes in attachment-based couples counseling, support for divorcing and blending families, and parent-child attachment therapy.

Three Oaks team member: December 2019 to August 2021
What was your role at the company, and can you briefly describe your responsibilities? How long did you work at the company, and when did you leave?
I worked as an outpatient psychotherapist, seeing a range of clients for individual therapy. I was at Three Oaks for about two and a half years until I opened my own private practice this October.
What motivated you to join the company in the first place?
I came to Three Oaks after working in community mental health and was really appreciative of the emphasis placed on clinician well-being, with the understanding that when clinicians are well-supported, quality client care follows.
How did your experience at the company contribute to your personal and/or professional growth?
Working at a large group practice enabled me to connect with clinicians from a variety of backgrounds and with diverse skill sets. I was able to learn so much from them through consult groups, as well as more informal consultations. I always felt encouraged to explore my interests, try new things, and pursue more formal training to continue to develop my skills, all of which will continue to help me throughout my career.
Can you share any specific achievements or milestones you reached while working here?
I got my LCSW! 🙂
What advice would you give to current employees or recent hires at the company?
Take advantage of the collective knowledge of the clinicians around you! Being able to collaborate, consult with, and learn from coworkers was so helpful to me, especially as an early-career therapist trying to soak it all in.
How has your experience at the company influenced your career trajectory or your life in general?
The supportive environment at Three Oaks provided a valuable foundation for my career and helped me grow from an imposter-syndrome-laden LCSWA to a much more self-assured fully-licensed LCSW. This has given me the confidence to take the leap into opening my own private practice.
Are there any fond memories or anecdotes you'd like to share about your time at the company?
Being a therapist is weird; you talk to people all day but rarely see your coworkers to say more than a quick hello because they're also talking to people all day, and usually at slightly different times than you. So spending intentional time with my South Durham team was always a treat. We nearly set an escape room record, and sadly very narrowly lost this year's annual TO kickball tournament, but I had so much fun in the process. Team Kicks Don't Lie is gonna win it next year!
Where are you NOW? Any future plans or goals?
I just opened my own private practice, Windstone Therapy and Wellness, PLLC. My new office is right down the street from my old Three Oaks office, so I haven't gone far. 🙂

Leah Powell, MSW, LCSWA
Three Oaks team member: June 2022 to December 2023
What was your role at the company, and can you briefly describe your responsibilities? How long did you work at the company, and when did you leave?
I have had the privilege of serving in so many roles, my primary one being an Outpatient Psychotherapist, and my others over my time here being a Site Supervisor, a referrals coordinator, and a Groups Program Manager.
How long did you work at the company, and when did you leave?
I signed my offer letter in March 2020, so I have had the privilege of being with Three Oaks for almost a full four years.
What motivated you to join the company in the first place?
My work mom, Leah Sampson, who has guided me since the beginning of my social work career, was the first to say "send me your resume, because I have a job for you." It took me losing my pride and being willing to ask for help finding a job, and I trust that woman with my life. For her to say it's a good place, that means it's a great place.
Can you share some of your most memorable experiences/projects/passions while working here?
I loved being able to help create a group program protocol, especially during COVID. I remember Casie taking a chance on letting me facilitate a training on how to lead a group, and so many amazing co-workers attended. After that training, Casie reached out and told me that I had something special and offered me the chance to make mentoring other providers a regular part of my role, and that was such a privilege. I am so glad I have gotten to do that.
How did your experience at the company contribute to your personal and/or professional growth?
Working here has taught me more than I could ever hoped to have learn and has offered me more opportunities than I think any job could offer the way it has here. I am more confident and more humble. I feel like I can lead and feel so excited to learn. I have boundaries and community. This place has been incredible for shaping me to be the person I am.
Were there any mentors or colleagues who had a significant impact on your career while at the company?
For sure Leah Sampson and Molly (they were the people who trained me when I started and held my hand when I needed it) and honestly my entire staff at Downtown Raleigh (Ryan, Elizabeth, Mary Catherine, Michele, Katie List). I have some sweet people from the other offices, too, who have changed my life for the better such as Sarah Bailes, Pressley, Allie, and so so many others. These wonderful people have added to my life and taught me so so much. OH! Fred also can never be forgotten as someone who inspires me chronically.
What skills or knowledge did you gain during your time at the company that you still find valuable in your current career?
I feel like working here has taught me how to be assertive and kind at the same time. I also appreciate how this place has challenged me to take risks with myself and how to trust myself while also acknowledging that feeling like a chronic learner is part of the process, and it should be.
How would you describe the company culture during your tenure?
Three Oaks aims for it to feel like more than just a job. I mainly reflect on how in DTR we have felt like truly a funny group of friends with all different personalities and approaches but it works. We can lean on each other, learn from one another, cry together, laugh together, hold each other accountable, cheer each other on. It's awesome.
Can you share any specific achievements or milestones you reached while working here?
I started my career period here and got fully licensed as a social worker. I learned more and to me that is a massive milestone. I love being an ACT therapist, and being trained in that and seeing the value of the modalities I use I would also argue are huge achievements in this field.
Were there any challenges you faced during your time at the company, and how did you overcome them?
Every therapist ever has to learn that no matter how good you want to and no matter how willing you are to bend yourself in half to be a good fit for every client ever, you will not be every person's preferred therapist. Learning that that doesn't mean I am an awful therapist but rather that I have a client who feels safe enough to say they need something more was hard but so helpful. Also becoming a leader and leading people that I genuinely would call my friends was bittersweet, but so so worth it. You overcome it with your support system, learning from those who know more, and with self compassion.
What advice would you give to current employees or recent hires at the company?
You don't have to do it like everyone else to do it well. Also, not being perfect outside of work or even at work doesn't mean you aren't doing something impactful. It takes time to build confidence, and it's okay if that falters, but don't let it falter alone. Grab a friend. Also, have things you do that don't serve a purpose. Many of us are in this field because if feels purposeful. That is beautiful, and also not everything needs a purpose. Find a past time that serves no other purpose than joy.
How has your experience at the company influenced your career trajectory or your life in general?
I have learned that I don't always know what I want to do next, but I know I want to learn more and try more. Three Oaks has taught me that that vague response is good enough to guide me to try something new. I have no clue what all I will do, but I feel like it is all possible now, and I am excited and nervous to try new things and learn as much as I can. Maybe I'll write a book one day. Who knows...
Are there any fond memories or anecdotes you'd like to share about your time at the company?
The in between session moments are so special. Getting in the car to go grab a mid day ice cream or going to a company kickball tournament. Calling a coworker up just because they get it. Those moments are my favorite moments, and gosh will I miss them.
How do you stay connected with former colleagues and the company's alumni network?
I am not good at letting people leave my life, and also I am terrible at texting. However, when I remember to text inevitably at 3AM, I usually think of the sweet people I miss from all parts of my life including work and will send a "hi I miss you and lets get coffee sometime" adjacent message and eventually we plan something (even though it takes me 3-5 business weeks to respond). I love maintaining these connections. It says a lot that you want to stay in touch with these folks even after you no longer work together.
Where are you NOW? Any future plans or goals?
I am work wise transitioning to Alamance Regional Psychiatric Associates to continue to be a therapist while moving closer to home to help support my partner in his career shifts also. I love being a therapist, but what I love even more is being a partner, so that's where I am now. Enjoying getting to continue to professionally love people well while being sure to love my family first. I am so excited for whatever the future holds. I honestly don't know what's next beyond that, but I appreciate my new found open mindedness to not having to have the answers right now. I would like to volunteer more, try new things, explore new places here in NC and be a tourist in my own life a bit more, so that's what's next.

Piper (they/them) is a Licensed Clinical Social Worker and Licensed Clinical Addiction Specialist. They work with individuals 14+ addressing a range of topics including trauma, sexuality, gender identity, relationships, substance use, anxiety, depression, and life transitions (though there are probably more topics that could be included). Piper uses a person-centered, eclectic approach in sessions that is based on the ever-changing needs of the folks they work with. Constantly trying to expand their practice, they are currently focused on learning more about the mind-body connection through somatic work and parts work.
Piper came to Three Oaks after working in community mental healthcare and felt immediately supported by the wonderful group of folks at the South and North Durham offices. They have built a strong network of clinicians who are dedicated to the work and the core social work/counseling values. The feedback and support received from colleagues has made it clear how vital community can be for the work we do.
Piper has their own private practice just a few blocks from the North Durham office and is lucky enough to share the space with other Three Oaks alum! You can find out more here:
