Katie Mendat List (she/her) is a Licensed Clinical Mental Health Counselor Supervisor (#S7867) who earned a Master in Arts in Clinical Counseling from The Citadel. Katie obtained her Bachelor in Science in Psychology from the College of Charleston. She has specialty training in working with trauma and is a Certified Child and Adolescent Trauma Professional. In addition, she is a Registered Play Therapist Supervisor (#S-3305) and a National Certified Counselor. She has also completed basic training in EMDR and is currently working towards certification. Katie has been practicing in the mental health field since 2004.

Katie has many years of experience providing individual, family, and group therapy in a variety of settings. Areas of expertise include depressionanxiety, self-esteem, ADHD, adjustment disorders, adoption/foster care, anger management, social skills, behavioral problems, grief/loss and trauma/abuse. In addition, Katie includes the parents of her young clients by providing support in the development of positive parenting strategies and enhancing their confidence in managing challenging behaviors.

While Katie primarily serves children, adolescents, and their families she does also work with young adults. She believes change and growth occur in a non-judgmental environment that provides a balance of challenge and support. All individuals have the potential to successfully meet life’s day-to-day challenges. Katie feels her primary goal as a counselor is to assist clients in using the resources and strengths they bring to the table in combination with appropriate therapeutic interventions to reach their goals. Sessions focus on self-awareness, choice, and problem solving. Katie utilizes a variety of evidence-based therapies including SAFE EMDR, Play Therapy, Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), as well as Sandtray and mindfulness. Katie implements creative and experiential techniques to promote healing and improve the overall well-being of her clients.
