Lauren Garrett (she/her), LCMHCA
Outpatient Psychotherapist in Apex
Works with ages 5-18 & young adults
Hi, I’m Lauren Garrett! I’m a Licensed Clinical Mental Health Counselor Associate (#A16661) and school counselor (#1253962). My passion lies in serving children, teens, and young adults. I earned my Bachelor of Science in Applied Psychology from the University of Indianapolis. Afterwards, I returned home to North Carolina where I completed my Master of Arts in Clinical Mental Health Counseling at Wake Forest University on the dual-track program. This experience has afforded me the ability to work in both school and clinical settings.
For the past three years, I have worked as a school counselor where my primary focus has been serving students experiencing anxiety, depression, struggles with low self-esteem, and life transitions such as divorce or the deployment of a loved one. I also enjoy partnering with parents of children who are experiencing emotional and behavioral difficulties. Because of my experience in the school system, I value the ability to collaborate with the various systems of a client's life (school, home, therapy, etc.) to best serve them. My approach to therapy is strengths-based and integrates aspects of cognitive-behavioral therapy (CBT), narrative therapy, mindfulness practices, and family systems theory. While my approach to therapy changes based on client preferences and presenting concerns, my ultimate goal is to create a safe space where my clients feel all aspects of them are welcome, seen, and honored. Through this foundation of trust and acceptance, we can create positive change.
When I’m not working with families, you can find me buried deep in a novel, on a hiking trail, or exploring new coffee shops.
I would be honored to walk alongside you on your journey toward healing.
