Patrick McDade (he/him), LCMHCA

Outpatient Psychotherapist in Downtown Raleigh

Patrick works with ages 11+

My name is Patrick (he/him) and I am a straight, white, cis man that is a LGBTQIA+ ally. I am a Licensed Clinical Mental Health Counselor Associate and former school counselor and high school science teacher. I have a bachelor's degree in sociology and a master’s of education in counseling from North Carolina State University.

All parts of you are welcome, sincerely 🙂

I am here to form a partnership with you and help you realize your goals for therapy.

My first real job was teaching high school science in public school through project-based learning.  Before that I was an aspiring professional soccer referee and milkshake-maker at Cookout.

From school counseling I have now landed at Three Oaks as a therapist.

My style is low-key and lighthearted. In sessions I like to let the client lead and I am there to listen, clarify, empathize, and ask questions. I am a curious person in sessions and my questions come from a place of non-judgment. I really like exploring the context of your life, identity choices, religious/spiritual/non-religious pursuits (I love metaphysical and ontological discussions), and cultural background because it creates a richer worldview for us to talk through. I will use different therapy approaches like parts work, IFS, Humanism, CBT, strength-based, psychodynamic, attachment theory, motivational interviewing, and mindfulness (look these up).

I am a practicing Buddhist and in my free time I like taking Walter (my puppy) to the dog park, bike rides, movie nights, origami, puzzles, birding, studying religions, listening to podcasts, and I started the banjo (Steve Martin).
